6 dead in fuel tanker, tricycles accident

A fatal accident involving a petrol tanker and two commercial tricycles (Keke) has left six people dead.

The accident occurred on Monday morning, in Ntak Inyang Village, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The tanker ladened with fuel was said to have immediately caught fire and burnt down the two tricycles and their occupants.

The Realm News gathered that rehabilitation work ongoing on one side of the lane led to the accident.

The Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Ogah Ochi, however, confirmed the incident but said a preliminary investigation indicated that two trucks were involved in the accident.

According to him, “the second truck that caused the accident ran away.”

He said one female and five males were killed in the accident.

“The truck that caused the accident ran away. The one that got burnt was trying to veer off from the truck that was overtaking which caused it to ram into two tricycles,” Ochi said.
