2 Nigerian youth arrested over US kidnap plot

The Nigeria Police have arrested two men believed to be part of a gang of “transnational kidnappers” who abducted a US citizen some weeks back.

The US citizen was later freed in an international operation that resulted in the death of six suspected kidnappers.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, 21-year-old Aliyu Abdullahi, a.k.a Mallam; and 23-year-old Aliyu Umaru, a.k.a Kwatte Kusu, were arrested while plotting to avenge the death of their fellow bandits.

Both men are from Sokoto State in the northern part of Nigeria.

The police provided this information in a press statement on Thursday.

The statement reads:

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two members of a trans-national kidnap syndicate involved in the kidnap of an American Citizen, Philippe Nathan Walton, on 28th October, 2020 at his farm in Masalata Village, Republic of Niger.

The suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigations.
