David Mark’s ADC expels Nafiu Gombe, others over ‘anti-party activities’

At its national convention in Abuja on Tuesday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), under former Senate President David Mark, voted to expel Nafiu Bala Gombe and several of his followers for what party leaders described as “anti‑party activities.”

Party officials said the expulsions followed Gombe’s decision to sue over the legitimacy of Mark’s leadership.

Convention delegates argued that taking internal disputes to court without first using the party’s internal resolution mechanisms amounted to a direct challenge to the party’s authority and threatened its unity.

Resolutions adopted at the convention stated the legal action sought to undermine earlier internal processes that produced the present leadership, and said the expulsions were necessary to preserve discipline and deter conduct that could bring the ADC into disrepute.

Gombe’s supporters, however, are expected to contest the convention’s decision.

Meanwhile, an Abuja court on Tuesday issued an order restraining Mark from proceeding with the convention.
