Police officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos were seen abandoning thier posts after coming under attack from suspected hoodlums on Monday.
The attack happened along Herbert Macauly Way in Yaba area of Lagos.
The RRS officers simply left their positions and apparently made no attempt to fire back at the suspected thugs who were hurly stones, sticks and other projectiles at police vehicles.
The hoodlums also reportedly disrupted a peaceful protest for comprehensive reform.
Since October 3, Nigerians, under the banner of EndSARS, have been marching against police brutality.
The sustained demonstrations forced the government into disbanding the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit that had allegedly degenerated into an agent of illegal arrests, extortion and extra-judicial killings.
