EndSARS: Sanwo-Olu denies unleashing thugs on Lagos protesters
The Lagos State Government did not pay hoodlums to attack EndSARS protesters in the state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said.
Protesters had accused the governor of sponsoring the assault after videos posted online seemed to show thugs disembarking from BRT buses and attacking passers-by while the police stood by. But the governor said the clips were misunderstood.
“On today’s unfortunate and condemnable attack by thugs in Alausa, we have reviewed the pictures and footage,” Sanwo-Olu told journalists on Thursday.
“The Lagos BRT bus was a victim of the thugs and in the footage, passengers are fleeing after being attacked.
“We have worked through the videos and pictures identifying some of the thugs and the police will immediately trace them to their hideouts to ensure they are brought to book.
“At the press briefing today, the driver of the Lagos BRT, Mayowa Olajide, spoke about the incident.
“Mayowa described how it happened and thankfully he was able to get the passengers to their destination safely.
“Please trust that we will follow through and bring the perpetrators to book,” the governor said.
