Abuja: Police officers ‘flee as thugs raid NYSC camp in Kubwa’

Thugs have reportedly breached the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp in Abuja’s Kubwa district.

The mob, on Tuesday, broke into the camp and started looting items from mattress to food, witnesses reportedly told Peoples Gazette.

The police officers near the scene fled after being overwhelmed by the thugs, who also threatened to harm them, a witness said, saying a reinforcement had been called.

The camp in Kubwa has served as orientation facilities for members of the youth corps for years, but its security has been largely neglected, a witness complained.

The raid comes amidst nationwide looting of warehouses and private residences for items ranging from pandemic relief materials to home and industrial appliances.

Governors said the relief materials were to be distributed in the event of another wave of coronavirus lockdowns. But the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) urged the authorities to release all COVID-19 palliative without delay.
