Sanwo-Olu drags Mr Macaroni, others to court over Lekki tollgate protest
The Babajide Sanwo-Olu government has charged comedian Mr Macaroni to court for his role in Saturday’s peaceful protest at the Lekki Toll Plaza.
Macaroni, whose real name is Debo Adebayo, was arraigned alongside 39 other protesters who were brutalised and arrested by the police at the Lekki tollgate.
Lagos police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the court proceedings on Saturday evening.
“He (Mr Macaroni) and others have been arraigned before a mobile court,” he said.
The arraignment followed a reported order by Lagos police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu to free all arrested protesters.
The protesters were later granted bail.
The demonstrators had gathered at the Lekki tollgate to stop the government from allowing Lekki Concession Company (LCC) resume toll collection until the dozens of Nigerians shot by soldiers at the venue last October get justice.
There was no incident of violence on the part of the protesters.
