The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has criticised supporters of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying their behaviour could damage his 2027 prospects.
In posts on X on Sunday, Dabiri-Erewa said Obi “has actually raised monsters” and urged him to rein in his followers, often called Obidients.
She added that, if Obi contests when it is the southeast’s turn, those supporters could “ironically be his downfall.”
She repeated the warning in follow-up posts, insisting their conduct must be addressed or it will hurt Obi’s political ambitions.
Responding to critics, Dabiri-Erewa defended replying from her personal account, rejecting the idea that her public office bars her from engaging online.
Her comments came after reactions from Obidients to an earlier tweet about a meeting with Nigerian professionals in Silicon Valley, where she also noted taking a ride in a driverless car and thanked Kunle Adeyemo.
