WATCH: Soldiers jubilate as Buhari sacks Buratai, other service chiefs
Nigerian soldiers were caught on tape dancing, singing and firing “joyful” shots in the air after President Muhammadu Buhari sacked his service chiefs.
The sacking came on Tuesday.
The jubilation by the soldiers, observers say, showed the troops were fed up with the old guard.
The location of the celebration was not immediately clear.
The sacked service chiefs were appointed in July 2015, some two months after Buhari won his first democratic election.
They were Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
The replacements are Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A. Z. Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; Air-Vice Marshal I. O. Amao, Chief of Air Staff.
