Muslims have right to kill everyone in France — former Malaysia PM
A former prime minister of Malaysia has caused controversy by claiming that Muslims have the ‘right’ to ‘kill millions of French people.’
Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad took to Twitter and Facebook with a mostly reasonable 13-point argument about cultural and religious interference and colonialism.
However, point 12 began with the sentence: ‘Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past.’
For context, he wasn’t advocating violence – he said he disapproved of the murder of French teacher Samuel Paty.
His argument was that an entire religion shouldn’t be blamed for the acts of a few, in the same way that all of France shouldn’t be held accountable for the millions it has killed around the world.
But of course, the internet doesn’t do context, and that sentence caused people to fly off both ends of the handle: some condoning violence, others condemning Islam.
A one-point lesson for the doctor on using social media: think before you post.
