Mourinho breaks Lampard jinx as Tottenham beat Chelsea
Before Tuesday night’s encounter, Lampard had bested Spurs’ Mourinho twice. The English manager, while at Derby County, also defeated Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Frank Lampard’s winning streak against former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has come to an end.
Mourinho, who now manages Tottenham, led Spurs to a penalty shootout victory against Chelsea, a team now coached by Lampard who used to play under the Portuguese.
Both managers had a touchline spat during the game. Lampard had reportedly told Mourinho to “shut it and sit down, Jose” after the Spurs manager complained that Lampard was talking too loudly because Chelsea were leading.
Timo Werner put the Blues ahead in the first half with his first Chelsea goal. But Eric Lamela levelled matters after the restart forcing the tie into a penalty shootout.
Lampard’s favourite player Mason Mount missed his spot kick to give Mourinho his first win over Lampard in four tries.
