Ibadan driver chases bike-riding robbers to death
Two suspected armed robbers met their deaths after allegedly snatching valuables from a resident of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The suspected thieves reportedly snatched a phone and other valuables from someone at Favours area of Bodija.
But their victim, who was driving a car, refused to resign to fate. He gave the robbers, who tried escaping on a motorcycle, a hot chase until they entered a pothole, lost control of the bike and fell off opposite the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the State Secretariat-Mokola road.
One of the alleged robbers reportedly died instantly. The other survived with injuries but was immediately attacked by a mob.
The mob, according to multiple reports, hit the suspected thief with clubs and other weapons till he died and then set him on fire.
The incident happened on Wednesday.
Men of the state Joint Security Task Force, known as Operation Burst, and the Nigerian Police were later sighted at the scene.
State police spokesperson Gbenga Fadeyi said on Wednesday night that effort was on to remove the corpses while investigation had commenced into the incident.
