EndSARS: Court orders CBN to unfreeze protesters’ bank accounts
An Abuja federal high court has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unfreeze the accounts of 20 EndSARS protesters.
The accounts were blocked in 2020 in the wake of the EndSARS protests which demanded an end to police brutality and bad governance in the country.
CBN, it was believed, blocked the accounts to stop fundraising efforts. The apex bank had allegedly told a court that the accounts were linked to terrorism.
But Justice Ahmed Mohammed, on Wednesday, ordered that they be unfrozen.
The order followed the agreement by the legal teams of the CBN and the defendants to end the case.
