Bye-election: Pro-APC group offers N100 recharge cards for votes
A group apparently “fronting” for a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is offering to buy votes for a token of N100.
The group called “TACT” is offering voters N100 recharge cards to vote Tokunbo Abiru in the ongoing Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election.
Sources in Somolu, one of the areas where the election is taking place, told The Realm News that local traders and other residents were seen shouting after TACT agents asking for the recharge cards.
“The agents just ask for their voter cards and then give them the card once they vote for the APC candidate,” a source said on Saturday.
“Some voters are being offered N500. Others are getting N5,000 to vote for the APC candidate,” our source said.
Vote-buying is not new in Nigeria. The corrupt act is further boosted by entrenched mass poverty and illiteracy.
Weeks before the bye-election, local APC politicians went round Somolu distributing palliatives that should have been shared during the lockdown. Many residents accepted them. Some did not.
