Ọ̀pá Àṣẹ: Suspected thugs vandalise Oba of Lagos’ palace, seize staff of office
Suspected thugs invaded the palace of the Oba of Lagos on Wednesday, reports say.
The palace is located at Iga Idugaran, Lagos Island. Some people were seen vandalising vehicles and carting away several artefacts.
Suspected vandals, who were reportedly armed with guns, also seized “Opa Ase,” the monarch’s staff of office from the palace.
But Oba Rilwan Akiolu was reportedly evacuated by soldiers.
The thugs who invaded the palace were the same ones who set the family home of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ablaze in Surulere, Punch reported a source to have said.
“When the thugs went to attack Sanwo-Olu’s father’s home, some of them were shot by the police,” the source reportedly said.
“This infuriated them and they were able to engage the police in a gun duel and overpower them.
“The policemen, who are attached to the Adeniji Adele Police Station, quickly made a retreat.
“The angry youths made their way to the Palace of the Oba of Lagos. They claim the king is part of the government. The thugs have only been attacking government institutions,” the source was quoted to have said.
