Insecurity: Return now, end wanton killing of security personnel, civilians in Abia — ADC chairman charges Governor Alex Otti
It is uncharitable for Governor Alex Otti to continue to feed his escapism in the United States under whatever guise while unknown gunmen desecrate Abia State soil with the blood of Nigerian soldiers and police officers.
It portrays an abdication of statutory responsibility and tantamount to the popular myth, ‘Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned’.
Insecurity is a serious menace every proactive government should not mollycoddle or treat with kids’ gloves.
At the last count, over 20 security personnel and civilians have been killed or kidnapped, and ammunitions cartered away in Abia State in coordinated attacks on security personnel.
In the space of seven days, unknown gunmen launched coordinated fatal attacks on security personnel in Umuokpara, Ubakala, all in Umuahia, and Ohafia LGA, killing seven officers and injuring two others respectively.
The best solution the government could offer was a lacrymouse press release that accused and put the blame on the opposition in the state.
It is a warning sign or sombre presage of doom for Abians whose governor’s monthly security vote is north of N900 million.
I am tempted to ask the rationale behind parking the two armoured tanks bought with billions of Abia funds at the house of the governor in Nvosi and exposing our gallant personnel to danger.
Enough of these shameful excuses and buck passing. I demand seriousness and proactiveness from Governor Otti and his government in governance and protection of lives and property, which we elected him to protect.
I called on the governor to quickly jettison his American jamboree and return to Abia State to put a stop to the menacing insecurity ravaging the land.
It is contemptible for Governor Otti to spend another night in America after today’s fatal killing of police officers in Ohafia LGA.
Governance is a serious business. Governor Otti should face it squarely. The constant excuses and buck passing are becoming irritating. They are not the reason we voted for him.
