30 killed as ‘mysterious disease’ ravages Delta communities
At least 30 people have reportedly died from a “mysterious disease” in Ute Okpu, Ute Erumu and Idumusa communities in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The government, currently awaiting medical test results of those affected, raised alarm over the “unknown disease” after 15 young men died at the weekend.
The victims were between the ages od 18 and 25.
Some say it is drug abuse.
Others say it is haemorrhagic fever. Reports had it that victims vomited blood before giving up the ghost. Other reported symptoms included fatigue, headache and fever.
Two of those who succumbed to the disease were children of one Monica Emeke. One was 26. The younger was 21. They lived in the Ute Okpu community where five people reportedly died on the same day.
Health commissioner Dr Mordi Ononye said the government has launched an investigation into the deaths.
