An attempt by multiple security agencies to arrest Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho has failed.

Up to 40 armed soldiers, police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) waylaid Igboho, whose real name is Sunday Adeyemo, on Friday.

But their attempt to take him into custody failed as “boys” threatened mayhem if Igboho was arrested.

The attempted arrest happened along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

In a video going viral on social media, Igboho is seen with his boys daring the security operatives to “do their worst”.

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who also shared the video on Twitter, said Igboho was going to a meeting with 93-year-old Afenifere chieftain Ayo Adebanjo when the incident occurred.

“I condemn this attempt to ambush and abduct him,” Fani-Kayode said.

“It is not only reckless but also very dangerous. If the security agencies want to see him all they need to do is to invite him to their office.

“I am not aware of any crime that he has committed and I urge restraint on all sides.

“Let me also send a warning to the Federal Government that Sunday Igboho is a hero to millions of Yoruba and either killing him or detaining him unlawfully would be the biggest mistake they could make.

“Building bridges, dialogue and the pursuit of peace is better than intimidation, threats, violence and war.

“A word is enough for the wise,” he said.

Igboho got into trouble with Nigerian authorities over his bid to expel “criminal” Fulani herdsmen and settlers from the South-West.
