UPDATE: Police release Agba Jalingo after public outcry
Activist and CrossRiverWatch editor Agba Jalingo has been arrested.
Police arrested Jalingo on Friday over a petition that alleged he is an arms dealer. The activist was later released following public outcry.
This is not the first time Jalingo would be detained.
Activist publisher Omoyele Sowore said the latest arrest is part of a plot to frustrate June 12 protest in the state.
Recall that Govern Ben Ayade had banned all public processions and protests ahead of Saturday’s demonstrations.
The June 12 protest is to hold nationwide and coincides with Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
June 12 is marked in honour of the late MKO Abiola who won a presidential election but was never allowed to lead the country.
During Saturday’s protest, activists will demand President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation among other issues.
