Tanker explosion kills 6, burns over 30 buildings in Kwara
The Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the development as devastating and sad.
No fewer than six persons lost their lives and over 30 buildings destroyed in a tanker accident in Jebba, Moro local government area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday morning when the tanker loaded with a premium motor spirit (PMS) reportedly lost control and spilt its contents.
An eyewitness account said the tanker rammed into residential buildings sending massive balls of smoke into the sky.
“More than 30 houses and shops got burnt,” he was reported to have told The Nation Newspapers.
Furthermore, The Nation reports that the Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle confirmed the incident.
The Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was said to have commiserated with the families of victims.
He described the development as devastating and sad in a statement, by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye.
“The governor is very sad at this development, especially, with the loss of lives and millions of naira worth of properties and farmlands.
“He sends his heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He urges them to take heart and remain calm as believers.
“He has also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ascertain the level of damage,” the statement read in parts.
