Smoke covers Lagos skies as petrol tanker explodes along Oshodi-Apapa expressway
Dark plumes of smoke shot high into the sky after a fully-loaded petrol tanker exploded exploded at Toyota Bus stop, Oshodi-Apapa expressway in Lagos on Thursday.
The tanker fell on the road around 9.15 am spilling its content and eventually exploding in front of the Lagos State Fire Service, eyewitnesses say.
Residents say the smoke was so thick it looked like it would rain.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) rushed to the scene to divert vehicles to alternative routes, Channels TV reported.
Firefighters have since put the flames under control.
“The tanker fire situation at Toyota Bus stop, along Oshodi Apapa Expressway, Lagos State has been brought under control,” the federal fire service tweeted on at 12:09 pm.
