Senate confirms Mahmood Yakubu as INEC chairman
Prof Mahmood Yakubu will lead the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for another five years, the Senate has confirmed.
Yakubu stepped aside as INEC chief after his first tenure expired but was re-nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ahmed Mu’azu acted in Yakubu’s stead pending the Senate’s approval Yakubu’s nomination.
The Nigerian Senate confirmed Yakubu’s second coming during plenary on Tuesday plenary.
“The Nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu is CONFIRMED as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission,” the Senate announced in a tweet
