Sanwo-Olu to ban former Lagos governors from receiving pension
Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will issue an executive order to stop pension payments to his predecessors and their deputies.
This is according to government media aide Jubril Gawat.
“Sanwo-Olu has announced his intention, through executive bill, to repeal the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007),” Gawat said on Tuesday.
The bill “provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies”.
The ban, if implemented, is expected to reduce wastage and cut the cost of governance in Lagos.
The ban would mean no executive pension and other benefits for former governors Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tunde Fashola and Akinwumi Ambode and their deputies.
Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, will also not receive those benefits should his successor uphold the executive order.
