Police shoot Omoyele Sowore in Abuja
Activist publisher Omoyele Sowore has been taken to hospital after he was shot be the police in Abuja.
Sowore, according to Sahara Reporters, was shot in the right side of the stomach towards the hip by gun-wielding policemen drafted to the Unity Fountain.
Demonstrators gathered at the venue, Monday, to protest against the state of insecurity.
The police who had already been stationed at the fountain before the arrival of the activist and other protesters opened fire on the unarmed protesters, reports say.
Many people, according to reports, also sustained varying degrees of injury during the incident.
Sowore has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
“Just been shit by a police officer, ACP Atine, at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. Let the struggle continue even if they take my life,” Sowore tweeted.
A video posted on Twitter showed supporters carrying the activist who, as it appeared, could barely walk.
