Police restrict movement over Lagos bye-elections
The police say they will block the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in Epe, Ibeju Lekki, Kosofe and Somolu areas of Lagos this Saturday (December 5).
The areas are part of the Lagos East Senatorial District and Kosefe II Constituency where bye-elections will hold on December 5.
“There will not be both vehicular and pedestrian movement in and out of the areas during the elections, except those on election duties, essential services and accredited domestic and foreign election observers,” police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the restriction on movement would help ensure “free, fair and credible bye-elections”.
The restrictions will be in effect between 6am and 6pm on Saturday.
“The Command has deployed a reasonable number of police personnel and other security agents to cover and provide security at the 1,928 polling units in the areas,” he said.
