Pastor Osinbajo wines and dines with Buhari, APC chieftains in Abuja same day terrorists murdered Christians in Owo, Ondo State
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), did not lose his appetite over the tragedy that greeted Ondo on Sunday, an image shared online shows.
Local authorities say at least 50 persons were killed after attackers believed to be Islamic extremists invaded St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo on Sunday morning.
As the gory images of the attack flooded social media and Nigerians grappled with the tragedy, President Muhammadu Buhari hosted a caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and treated them to a sumptuous dinner in Aso Rock.
The dinner came as part of the president’s moves to tactically unveil his anointed candidate for the ruling party which is expected to hold its presidential primary this week.
Buhari’s rumoured favourite, Osinbajo, also happens to be an ‘anointed man of God’ who has pastored a popular and affluent branch of the RCCG, a famous religious organisation led by the highly-respected Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye.
Sunday morning’s killing forced Ondo governor Rotimi Akeredolu to cut short his plans to attend Buhari’s dinner and return home for photo ops to appease his bereaved people.
But Osinbajo was photographed and filmed seated by Buhari’s right hand at the meal table, eating, smiling and doing all that.
The vice president, like his boss, did issue a statement condemning the attack, vowing to bring the perpetrators to book.
“I am saddened by the senseless massacre of innocent people in Owo,” Pastor Osinbajo wrote in a social media statement hours before the Abuja dinner.
“My deepest condolences go to the families whose hearts are broken and are grasping for answers. We are united in grief and a resolve to defeat the cowards who unleash terror on defenceless people.
“We will not cower to the whims of elements who lurk in darkness to unleash inconceivable wickedness on our citizens. We will keep standing against evil and Nigeria will win. As the President has charged, emergency agencies are to swing into action to bring succour to the wounded.
“We stand in utter solidarity with the people of Owo and Ondo State in this terrible moment.”
