Nigerian military plane crashes near Abuja airport
A military plane has crashed near Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, aviation minister Hadi Sirika says.
Everyone in the aircraft are believed to have died. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear. There were six persons onboard.
Sirika confirmed the development in a short statement on Twitter Sunday afternoon.
The minister did not provide any casualty figure. He simply called for calm while waiting for a military probe into the crash.
“A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure enroute Minna,” he said.
“It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm and wait for the outcome of investigation by the military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls if any,” the minister said.
