Mother, daughter, 18 others killed as cultists clash in Ogun

At least 20 persons were reportedly killed during cult clashes in some parts of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The clashes, which reportedly started two weeks ago, left many others injured.

Residents of Ijebu-Ode and its environs, reports say, were thrown into a state of constant fear as Eiye and Aiye confraternities clashed.

The areas affected, according to Punch, are Epe garage, Ejinrin road, Adefisan, Ibadan garage, Onirugba and Tatina, old Benin-Ondo road among others.

A woman and her daughter, who were in a commercial tricycle popularly called Marwa, were shot dead during a clash, a source reportedly said.

According to the source, members of the rival cult group targeted the rider of the tricycle, who belonged to another cult group.

Also, members of the dreaded group killed an apprentice after his arm was chopped off during another clash.

Several persons were reportedly killed in Epe garage, Ejinrin road, Ibadan-garage and Adefisan during the cult clash which forced people scampering for safety.

It was further gathered that few others persons lost their lives in Onirugba, old Benin-Ondo road, Oke-Owa.

On Monday, two persons were reportedly killed behind a popular hotel in Oke-Aje.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the clashes but denied that innocent persons were killed.
