Military leaders panic as major-general ‘dies from COVID-19 complications’
Major-General Johnson Olu Irefin is dead.
Prior to his demise, Irefin was the general officer commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Irefin was reportedly attending the annual chief of army staff conference in Abuja before he took ill and died.
The top army official reportedly died from COVID-19 complications. The development is reportedly causing panic among the military hierarchy.
The conference has been cancelled by the army and participants comprising principal staff officers, GOCs, commandant of army schools, commanders of army operations have been asked to go into isolation for 14 days.
The participants have also been barred from attending tomorrow’s wedding of the son of chief of army staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
