Imo violence: Police arrest Rochas Okorocha after unsealing seized hotel
Former Imo governor Rochas Okorocha has been arrested by the police.
Okorocha was arrested on Sunday after unsealing Spring Palm Estate.
The property, which was recently seized by current governor Hope Uzodimma, is linked to Okorocha’s wife, Nkechi.
Okorocha, who now represents Imo West at the Senate, had gone to the estate with his supporters, police officers, soldiers and personnel of National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and ordered the unsealing of the estate.
Government officials had mobilised to the estate, leading to a free-for-all as many were reportedly injured while some cars were damaged.
An eyewitness said two people were killed in the bloody violence that followed.
Imo information and strategy commissioner Declan Emelumba confirmed Okorocha’s arrest.
He said the former governor would be arraigned in court on Monday.
Also arrested were Ijeoma Igboanusi and Lasbrey Okafor-Anyanwu. Igboanusi was the deputy chief of staff (Domestics) while Okafor-Anyanwu was the Commissioner for Transportation in Okorocha’s government.
