Hoodlums ‘invade Akwa Ibom Government House, steal millions of naira’
Suspected thugs reportedly invaded one of the most heavily-guarded premises in Akwa Ibom State — the Government House Press Centre — and made away with millions of naira.
The huge sum of money was reportedly stolen from the office of the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Ekerete Udoh, who was said to have delayed distributing it to its owners.
The said hoodlums reportedly burgled the locks and gained access into the room where the cash was kept in a “Ghana-must-go” bag. They then emptied the loot into their own bag and escaped.
The said theft was allegedly carried out last Friday.
There were security cameras on the premises but none was installed to cover the exact area where the theft allegedly took place, reports say.
“We heard the money came in since yesterday afternoon but they refused to share it to the people it was meant for,” a source reportedly told Daily Post.
“So, the bandits came in the night and destroyed the keys and gained access to office of the secretary to the CPS.
“This is not the first time the government house press center is being robbed. We have lost about three plasma televisions, one at the reception, one in reporters’ office and the other in the office used by cameramen.
“In all of these, no meeting, no replacement.”
Udoh’s driver was reportedly interrogated a day after the said theft. The CPS reportedly said those the stolen cash was meant for would eventually get their money.
