Gbajabiamila: Newspaper vendor’s widow disowns family over N500m demand
Josephine Okereke has railed against her inlaws for allegedly trying to monetise the tragedy that claimed her husband’s life.
Ifeanyi, Okereke’s husband was, last Thursday, allegedly killed by an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to the security team of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Following Okereke’s death, Gbajabiamila visited the bereaved family and promised to take care of the wife and her two children till they reach the age of 21.
But Okereke’s family later said the Speaker must pay N500 million in damages or be dragged to court.
Lawyer to the family, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), in a letter dated November 23, 2020, said he was given the mandate to write the letter by the father of the deceased, Okorie Okereke; and the younger brother to the deceased, Destiny Okereke.
Josephine, however, told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that she was not part of the legal threats.
The widow told Gbajabiamila to ignore Okereke’s family and fulfil his promises to her and her young children, one of which is only days old.
