‘Confusion’ in Aso Rock as armed robbers ‘attack’ Buhari’s chief of staff
President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aides are being ridiculed online for ‘lying’ to Nigerians about two ‘attempted’ robberies in Aso Rock.
Chief of staff Ibrahim Gambari and an administrative officer at the presidency, identified as Maikano, were robbed, Peoples Gazette reported.
The armed robbers invaded Aso Rock and emptied the residences of Gambari and Maikano, the report said.
In a bid to douse tensions about the safety of life and property in the heavily-guarded territory, presidency spokespersons Garba Shehu and Bashir Ahmed issued statements Nigerians say are conflicting.
“An exclusive fake news from this news blog, that is what is expected from you, fake news and more fake news,” Ahmad tweeted in reaction to the report.
He also tweeted this after Shehu released a statement on the matter:
“’Armed robbers invade Aso Rock, empty Buhari’s chief of staff Gambari, admin officer Maikano’s residences’ STILL AN EXCLUSIVE FAKE NEWS.
‘People of understanding and reasoning of course understand the difference between an ‘attempt’ and an ‘invasion’.”
Here’s Shehu’s statement on the ‘attempted’ robberies:
“The Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there “was a foolish attempt” to burgle his residence at 3am this (Monday) morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.
“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident.
“The police, in a related development is searching for a suspected burglar who unsuccessfully attempted break into the house Maikano Abdullahi the Administration Office on Thursday, last week. Maikano lives on the same street with the Chief of Staff, close to the Villa.”
Nigerians say the statements from Ahmad and Shehu are contradictory.
