Christian Obodo: Kidnappers free Nigerian footballer
Former Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder Christian Obodo is a free man again.
Gunmen kidnapped the footballer from a community in Delta State on Sunday, reports said. It would be second time Obodo would be kidnapped in Nigeria.
The kidnapping reportedly took place at about 5pm along the Refinery Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
Obodo was reportedly kidnapped alongside a female friend when they stopped to buy bananas.
Obodo and his lady friend were released by their captors late Sunday, reports now say.
It was also gathered that the footballer, who retired recently from a Greece Football Club, paid undisclosed ransom before he was freed around 10:30pm on Sunday.
Confirming the release of Obodo to journalists in Warri on Monday, one of his longtime friends, Big Sam, said, “He has been released. He was released last night. I met him this morning. The town is becoming more unsafe. We are glad that he is back home.”
