Bus torched after driver crushed okada rider to death in Ibadan
A man was killed at the spot after a 14-passenger bus, which was reportedly carrying kegs of vegetable oil, rammed into the okada (motorcycle) he was riding.
The fatal crash happened at the Idi Ape area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday.
Oyo Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) commander Uche Chukwurah confirmed the death.
The incident left two other people injured.
Moments after the crash, the bus driver reportedly fled the scene to avoid lynching. A mob then set the bus on fire in apparent anger.
The situation was so chaotic that it led to a traffic gridlock in the Iwo Road-Idiape area, witnesses said.
The government deployed security operatives to the area in a bid to restore calm.
