‘Buhari sacks IGP Adamu; no, Buhari extends his tenure,’ sources give conflicting info to 2 newspapers
The fate of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector-General of Police hangs on a balance after the police’s chief tenure of service expired on February 1.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of allowing a constitutional crisis fester for not naming a new IGP or extending Adamu tenure since that time.
IGP Adamu, according to Section 18 (8) of the Police Act, 2020, should have retired on February 1, 2021. But he apparently remains the IGP.
President Buhari has now asked Adamu to step aside, The Nation, on Wednesday, reported sources familiar with the matter to have said.
Other sources, however, told ThisDay Buhari will extend Adamu’s tenure.
The matter should become clear in the coming days.
