Buhari, governors meet over ‘restructuring, insecurity, protests’
President Muhammadu Buhari is meeting with state governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The political leaders did not disclose the agenda of the meeting but speculators say the spate of insecurity will dominate the gathering. President Buhari may be pressured into firing his service chiefs over their apparent failure to curb the current surge in kidnappings and killings.
The meeting comes on the heels of the Borno massacre during which Boko Haram terrorists beheaded at least 78 rice farmers near Maiduguri.
Buhari and the governors could also discuss the recent calls for restructuring and fiscal federalism.
Recent protests against police brutality carried out under the leaderless EndSARS movement could also make the cut.
The economy, the poor performance of the naira and the prolonged closure of Nigeria’s land borders could also come up.
