APC Primaries: Osinbajo leaves convention venue as Tinubu takes commanding lead
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has departed from Eagle Square, Abuja, the venue of the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Osinbajo departed early Wednesday morning. Observers say his exit from the venue is nothing strange as he may need to freshen up like the other aspirants and dignitaries, including President Muhammadu Buhari, who also exited the venue.
Their exit, believed to be temporary, cam as it became increasingly clear that Osinbajo’s dream of succeeding his boss as Nigeria’s next president may have come to naught.
Osinbajo was considered a front-line aspirant with former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, among the 23 contenders for the 2023 presidential ticket of APC.
Happenings at the Eagle Square showed that he might not stand a chance against the man who first brought him to limelight by appointing him as the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State.
Tinubu also nominated him as the Vice President to President Muhammadu Buhari following the victory of APC in 2015.
Things got tougher for Osinbajo when his former boss was endorsed by two former governors, a sitting governor, a former Speaker and the youngest among the 23 aspirants.
Meanwhile, with the tranche of votes already counted, Tinubu appears to have taken a commanding lead with Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the other aspirants far behind.
