Anambra woman arrested for ‘stealing’ 3-year-old child
The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has said it arrested a 29-year-old woman, identified as Chinwendu Umegbaka, for alleged stealing of a three-year-old child.
It said the suspect was arrested on Saturday at about 4.30 pm, at Nwawulu Street, Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the suspect hails from Isinkwo Abaomege Community in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Ikenga noted that preliminary information revealed that the suspect is a neighbour to the child’s parents, adding that Chinwendu when arrested initially denied knowledge of the whereabouts of the three-year-old girl.
“But on further interrogation, the suspect made a confessional to the police of stealing the child with the intention of selling her.”
The command’s spokesman further stated that the little child had been recovered and reunited with the parents
He said that further development shall be communicated to the public as an investigation was still ongoing.
