Alaafin of Oyo dies at 83, to be buried today — Oyo Mesi
The Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, has passed on.
Alaafin Adeyemi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, the Head of Oyo Mesi, who is the Prime Minister of Oyo Kingdom, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, said this while addressing journalists at the palace.
The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began.
He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is expected to make an official announcement upon receiving the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade.
Akinade will lead Oyo before a new Alaafin is installed.
The remains of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, will be committed to the earth today.
The Head of Oyo Mesi, who is the Prime Minister of Oyo Kingdom, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, said this while addressing journalists at the palace.
The Oyo prime minister said, “We have called the Imam. Baba will be buried today around 4pm.”
He confirmed that Oba Adeyemi died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti on Friday night.
Ayoola added that the necesary rites of passage had been performed.
The Chief Imam Of Oyo, Masud Ajokidero and his league of clerics, have arrived at the palace.
