Abia: The dilemma of a state

I know those who are genuinely concerned about Abia’s predicament, but, for now, let us continue deceiving ourselves.

The same so-called disenchanted and battered Abia youth who take to social media to complain about infrastructural decay, bad governance, deception and incompetence of our leaders had this charade posted online.

My concern is that they celebrated it as development and unabashedly showered encomium and gratitude on the initiator.

The schism, belligerence and criticism on social media aren’t about our collective aspirations but individual and political interests. One could imagine the level of outcry and banter on social media if the project was an initiation of Okezie Ikpeazu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Suddenly, the dissenting voices from the oppositions, those sympathetic and even the ones who impetuously insinuated my compromise, have gone dumb. I have always maintained that we do not genuinely love Abia but the sources of our daily bread.

Imagine the kind of uncharitable names they will call me if I decide to write about this charade (ongoing in Nkporo) and its initiator.

I do not belong to any political party neither do I have sympathy for any of them. I am not a politician (for now) but a professional journalist. The criminal silence of our elders and the acquiescence of the oppositions were the reasons I rose to the challenges of democracy and elitism.

The PDP is guilty of the dilapidation in Abia State. But we should not forget that those putting on the bridal garment are a few branches of the PDP monsters we abhor. We cannot be oppositions in the morning and PDP at night. That is the express definition of the words “Creeping Jesus”.

It might be shocking but most of us who are genuine oppositions are common pawns on the chessboard of the senior players. They will use us to achieve their political interests. If in doubt, wait till next year for its manifestation. Without sounding immodest, 60 per cent of what I am not aware of in Abia politics is not yet conceived or discussed.

I know those who are genuinely concerned about Abia’s predicament, but, for now, let us continue deceiving ourselves.
