Abia: Ikpeazu slashes ABSU fees by N30,000
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has reduced the tuition fee for Abia State University (ABSU) students. It is unclear if the reduction will be permanent.
The governor had come under public criticism after considering an ABSU proposal to charge students N15000 for “pandemic prevention fee”.
Ikpeazu, in response to the criticism, scrapped the proposed levy and promised that students would be paid N30,000 instead to help them meet their needs as the state continues to recover from coronavirus lockdowns.
The promised payment is, apparently, now being offered as tuition relief.
“I’ve directed the management of Abia State University, Uturu, to deduct the N30,000 pocket money for students of Abia origin from their school fees as widely requested by the students,” the governor said on Saturday.
“We’ll continue to listen and do whatever is necessary to ensure our high-flying students excel,” Ikpeazu promised.
