Abia: Gunmen bomb immigration office, ‘half-naked’ attackers raze police station
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) head office located in the Ubakala axis of Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway was reportedly attacked by unknown gunmen.
This is coming a few hours after the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Abia State Police Command was razed by assailants.
A resident said there was a huge shooting in the area between the attackers and security operatives.
He said there was panic in the area as fear had gripped residents of the area when the incident happened Saturday evening.
Also on Saturday, the police, during a show a force exercise, killed a keke operator in the state.
The gunmen who attacked the NIS command are suspected to be operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militia wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
It is gathered that they bombed the building and opened fire on personnel of the service, killing many officers in the process.
Daily Trust reported that vehicles within the compound were also set on fire.
Those who attached the SCID in Umuahia earlier were said to have numbered over 50, and were half-naked.
Some were seen hanging live cock around their neck while many of them are armed with AK-47 rifles.
They attacked the security formation and set it ablaze, multiple reports say.
