2023: Islamic leaders endorse Tinubu for president
President Muhammadu Buhari should hand over power to the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Bola Ahmed Tinubu, some religious leaders have reportedly said.
The religious leaders, who are part of the Council of Ullammas and some Jumma’at Mosque Immams in Kano, reportedly said Tinubu deserved the presidency for the role he played in Buhari’s emergence in 2015 and re-election in 2019.
The endorsement reportedly came as Tinubu attended a wedding in Kano on Friday.
Buhari, according to the Muslim leaders, “had tried severally to clinch the presidency but failed until Tinubu joined forces with him in 2015.”
“It is indeed on record and in our minds what you did for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2014, this is somebody who had tried all he could to clinch his Presidential ambition but failed serially not until you joined forces with him,” Sheik Shehu Shehu Maihula reportedly told Tinubu after Friday’s mosque wedding.
Shehu Maihula of the Tijjaniyya sect reportedly added:
“You Bola Tinubu brought to Buhari the Muslim’s and Christian South to mend fences with the North for him to achieved his long time desire.
“This we will revenge and revenge well, by given you all the necessary support you require to achieved your desire, this is an assurance to you for what you have done for us.”
Tinubu has not announced any bid for the presidency but insiders have said the former Lagos governor already told close associates he would run for office in 2023.
Tinubu’s reported presidential ambition could set him on a collision course with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is also, according to reports, seeking to succeed his boss come 2023.
