2023: Days after EFCC disgraced Okorocha, Supreme Court rules that Amaechi’s N96 billion ‘fraud’ probe can proceed
The Supreme Court has declined a suit seeking to stop the planned probe of N96 billion fraud allegedly involving the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
The said multibillion-naira fraud was allegedly carried out during Amaechi’s time as the Governor of Rivers State.
While dismissing the suit on Friday, the court in a unanimous judgement by a five-man panel of Justices, submitted that there was no justification to stop the probe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant.
The decision is coming days after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested former Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, who is also running for president on the platform of the ruling APC.
Amaechi’s and Okorocha’s ordeals have not been officially linked to their 2023 political ambitions.
The APC should have its presidential flagbearer by Monday or before the June 4 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
