Wike promises to resign if Amaechi can do this one thing

Rivers governor Nyesom Wike has offered to resign if transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi can mention any federal project he has attracted to the state since 2015.

Wike tendered the bragging right in a statement signed by media aide Kelvin Ebiri. The statement was issued after two former chairmen of All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as other chieftains of the opposition defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The governor explained that his predecessor Amaechi claimed he sold a Dash 8 aircraft purchased by former governor Peter Odili administration to Cross River at the cost of $6 million, but has so far failed to account for the proceeds of the transaction.

Wike said his government traced the aircraft to Germany.

Wike said Amaechi’s guber reign was characterised by financial malfeasance, accusing him of diverting the $308 million paid by Sahara Energy to acquire the state independent power projects.

Wike said he attracted several projects to Rivers when he was the minister of state for education under ex-president Goodluck Jonatha.

He challenged Amaechi to do the same under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Wike and Amaechi were members of the PDP before the latter fell out with Jonathan and later switched to the APC.
