Trump hospitalised over coronavirus symptoms
US President Donald Trump was on Friday flown to Walter Reed Medical Centre from where he would now work.
Trump and First Lady Melania tested positive for the coronavirus and the president was hospitalised after developing mild symptoms, reports say.
The White House the decision to hospitalise Trump was made out of abundance of caution.
Trump is 74 and in the age range of those likely to suffer adversely from COVID-19.
Some of Trump’s symptoms, according to ABC and the New York Times, include cough, stuffy nose, fever and fatigue.
Trump was, however, not stretchered off. The US president walked into a waiting helicopter outside the White House and was then flown to the health care facility. The president even recorded a video message for Americans before flying out.
“I think I’m doing very well,” he said.
Trump, who mocked his Democratic challenger Joe Biden for “always wearing a mask”, wore a mask as he walked out of the White House into the helicopter.
Hours after Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis, Biden pulled all negative ads his campaign was running against the president.
Biden and former President Barack Obama also wished Trump a speedy recovery.
Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis came four weeks before the November 3 presidential election with pre-election polling showing Biden leading Trump nationally.
