Sanwo-Olu bans churches from holding in-person crossover services
If you want to pray your way into 2021, you will have to do so in your house, Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reminded Christians on Christmas eve.
Nigerian churches usually hold “crossover” services on December 31 to usher in the new year. They will have to let this pass in 2020 because of coronavirus restrictions, Sanwo-Olu said.
“There are not meant to be any gathering,” the governor told journalists at the State House in Marina on Thursday.
“The curfew set by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19) is still active.
“There is a national curfew from 12 midnight to 4am and that has to be respected. No night vigils in any form.
“The instructions are there and all of the restrictions are in place as set by the PTF and the Lagos State Safety Commission.
“So, there are no vigils anywhere. This is just one Christmas, we will have many Christmas. So, you can have your prayers at home.”
