Police officers arrested after deadly raid on Kano ‘Indomie shop’

Two persons have been reportedly killed following a raid by policemen on a popular “indomie spot” in Sharada quarters, Kano state.

According to a resident, the incident occurred on Saturday night when some officers of the anti-daba unit of the Kano police command, visited Sharada area to arrest a suspect.

The eyewitness explained that the owner of the shop demanded to know his younger brother’s offence.

“One of the policemen, in trying to drag out the man from the shop, stabbed him twice and he started bleeding,” the resident, who preferred not to be named, said.

“Immediately, others at the spot rushed to save the situation, but the policemen shot into the crowd and someone was hit by the bullet and he died instantly.”

The two victims were said to have been rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, but eventually died.

The resident gave the names of the two deceased persons as “Abubakar Isah (Banupe) and Ibrahim Suleiman (Mainasara)”, adding that they were buried on Sunday morning, while the youth in the area assembled for a protest to demand justice.

Abdullahi Kiyawa, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in Kano, also confirmed the raid.

“It is true that some officers of the anti-daba, in the company of some civilians, went to arrest some hoodlums but later, reports indicated that two persons were allegedly killed,” he said.

The DSP added that some officers have been arrested in connection with the incident.

He explained that the policemen were arrested on the order of Habu Sani, Kano police commissioner, and investigation into the matter has begun.
