Massive flames as fire guts Oando tank farm in Apapa

A tank farm belonging to Oando Plc located at Marine Beach in Apapa area of Lagos State was on Thursday gutted by fire.

The plume of smoke was so huge that it was seen from as far away as Bariga and other areas of the state.

“It was like a huge cloud of rain up in the sky,” a Bariga resident told The Realm News. The smoke could still seen as late as 7pm.

NEMA Southwest coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the development to the NAN in Lagos.

Mr. Farinloye said the cause of the fire which started at the depot about 12:05 pm was yet to be ascertained.

He said all employees working in the facility had been safely evacuated.

Officials of the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Fire Service and the Lagos State Fire Service are presently trying to extinguish the inferno, Mr. Farinloye said.
